1975 Westy Weekender (Sink cabinet behind driver seat (pump works, tank does not leak), and icebox/drawers cabinet behind passenger seat, (no stove) previously owned by an Air Force Rescue Pilot. He did quite a bit of work on it, and kept it on base in California as his "housing" when he was on duty, but when he & his wife had their first child, it was time for to go to a new home. I have kept it in Dallas since November 2009.
Oddly enough, it is a 1975 (ID plates on door frame and visual design), but has a 1971 VIN, but took clear Texas title from previous owner when purchased, and have never had an issue. I don't know how that happened, but I have been assured that it's not that big of a deal, except for VW purists.
Work done by previous owner and me (I have all receipts in a binder, in chronological order from 2005 until present):
- Brakes, starter, general service, May 2005
- New 3-window canvas pop-top, May 2005
- New blue curtains, June 2005
- Full recover of front & rear seats, recover of rear deck bed, plus new foil-backed jute pad, July 2005
- New clutch, flywheel, both axles, August 2005
- Full rebuild of engine, new dual carbs, new exhaust system, Sept. 2005
- New rear shocks, Nov. 2005
- Rebuilt transmission, Feb. 2006
- Shift rod coupler & bushings, March 2006
- New ignition, July 2006
- New rear wheel cylinders, May 2009
- Replace valve seats, June 2010
- New fuel pump, Sept 2010
- Replace left head, add missing tin, April 2012
- New muffler, Sept. 2014
- Replace right head, weld heater boxes, March 2015
- Drivers window regulator, replumb breather hose, heater hoses, vacuum crossover, engine compartment seal, Feb. 2018
Interior is blue/grey throughout front seats, rear seats and rear deck...the upper bed is still the original blue/green plaid. 3-window canvas on the pop-top is in excellent condition (all the zippers work well), and all the curtains all around are in great shape...and match the blue of the interior fabric.
Few issues are: the right rear pop-top hinge needs to be replaced, as the rivet holding the "X" has broken, but the top still goes up and down just fine. Rust along the bottom edge of the front and rear windows...That was next on my repair list, along with minor body work and a new paint job, but wasn't able to get to that. And the fresh air lever on the dash finally gave out...the plastic down inside there is just too old and brittle. Oh, and the gas gauge just doesn't do the job, but none of them in any of my VW's have ever been too accurate.
I have lots of pictures (additional pictures and some videos are on my site,

Engine is in great shape (2000cc dual carb)...had a bit of oil spray in the engine compartment last year due to overpressure in the case, so oil was seeping out the dipstick hole...but a bit of troubleshooting (replumb of breather hose) and that was fixed, so now engine compartment is oil-free!
I have 2 boxes of spare parts that come with the vehicle...all sorts of stuff...new rubber seals for all the windows, door handles, fuses, and other things.
